How junk car pickup works, start to finish

How does junk car pickup work?

With Cash For Junk Cars Northside Chicago Inc it takes one call and one visit. You describe the car and where it's parked, we make an offer, and if you accept we book a pickup, often the same day. At pickup you sign the title over, hand over the keys if you have them, and get paid by Zelle, Cash App or cash while the car is towed away free.

What are you selling?

Step 1 of 2

Step 1: Vehicle Information

Free towing. Paid the same day we collect the car, by Zelle, Cash App or cash.

  1. Describe the car

Send the two-step form or call. We need the year, make and model, whether you have the title, your name and number, and where the car is.

  2. Answer a few questions

We call back and ask whether it runs, whether it rolls, what's damaged or missing, and exactly where it's parked: street, alley, garage level or lot.

  3. Hear the offer

We make you an offer based on what you've told us. Take your time; you're not committed to anything by asking.

  4. Book the pickup

Pick a time between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., any day. Same-day pickup is often possible. If the car is in a building garage or at a repair shop, arrange access before the visit.

  5. Hand it over

We pull up with our own tow truck at the spot where the car sits. Take your plates off and your belongings out. Hand over the keys if you have them and sign the title over in the Assignment of Title area.

  6. Get paid

You're paid on the spot, the same day we collect the car: Zelle, Cash App or cash in hand. The tow costs you nothing.

The paperwork, in plain terms

Illinois law asks the seller to sign the title over to the buyer in the space provided on the certificate, at the time the vehicle is delivered (625 ILCS 5/3-112). For most cars that also means writing down the odometer reading; federal rules exempt older model years, and our title guide explains the cutoff.

If there's an old loan on the car, find the lender's signed-off title or a lien satisfaction letter before pickup day. If the title is missing altogether, read selling a car without the title before you book.

Where the car is parked

Most of the planning happens around the spot, not the car. A side-street curb is simple. A permit-zone block needs a guest pass if the car isn't registered there, an alley garage needs a door that opens, and a condo garage needs the building's okay plus the level and any height limit.

The condo and apartment parking guide covers buildings, and the service area pages cover local rules from Rogers Park to Glenview.

After the sale

What should I do after the car is gone?
File a Seller's Report of Sale (form VSD 703) with the Illinois Secretary of State, cancel the insurance, and keep or transfer your plates. The SOS form says it releases your responsibility for the vehicle.
Can my Chicago city sticker go with the car?
No. The City Clerk lets you move a city sticker to your own next vehicle, and you'll need the old sticker to do it, so take it off the windshield before pickup. Stickers can't pass to whoever takes the car.
Who needs to sign the title?
The Secretary of State says the title must show the signed and printed names of all the sellers. If two people own the car, both should plan to sign.
