Who pays cash for junk cars on Chicago's North Side?

Cash For Junk Cars Northside Chicago Inc buys junk, wrecked and non-running cars, pickups, vans and SUVs, along with motorcycles, RVs and commercial trucks, from a storefront at 6642 N Western Ave in West Ridge. We tow the vehicle free from wherever it sits on the North Side or in the near north suburbs and pay cash the same day we collect it.

Running or dead, keys or no keys, it doesn't change much for us. What matters is where it's parked, because up here that's usually the hard part. A car at a metered curb on Devon is a different job from one wedged two levels down in a Sheridan Road condo garage.

So the first call is mostly questions about the spot. Answer them well and the pickup goes the way you expect. Not sure what a junk car brings? Our guide on what sets a junk car's value explains the offer without the hype.

How a sale runs, start to curb

  1. Tell us what you're selling

Year, make, model and which papers you have. Use the form or call (708) 858-5673.

  2. Talk it through

We call back, ask what's wrong with it and exactly where it's parked, then make you an offer.

  3. Book a time

Same-day pickup is often possible. We work 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., every day of the week.

  4. Get paid at the curb

Hand over the keys, if there are any, and the paperwork. You're paid when we collect the car, by Zelle, Cash App or cash in hand, and the tow costs you nothing.

What we buy

Any condition, any make, from a dead hatchback to a camper that hasn't moved in years or a semi tractor off a lot. Each link opens the page for that vehicle, with what to expect and what to have ready.

North Side parking is the hard part, so we plan around it

  • Condo and apartment garages

Clear it with the manager or the HOA first, then tell us the level, the entrance and any height limit. Tight ramps are normal here; we just need to know before the truck shows up.

  • Permit-zone streets

On a residential permit block, a car without the zone's sticker needs a 24-hour guest pass during restricted hours. Without a valid pass, a dead car on that block can be ticketed during the posted hours.

  • Alleys and back garages

Plenty of North Side junkers sit on a slab behind a two-flat. Tell us which alley it's off and whether the garage door opens all the way.

  • Snow routes in winter

From December 1 to April 1, 107 miles of main streets have a 3 to 7 a.m. parking ban. A 2-inch snowfall bans parking on 500 more miles, and the city tows what's left.

The step-by-step version, with the guest-pass rules and what to ask your building, is in our guide to junk car pickup from condo and apartment parking. Winter rules are in what to do when a car won't start after winter.

Paperwork worth finding first

A signed-over Illinois title is the cleanest way to sell, and our guide on signing over an Illinois title shows which lines to fill in.

No title in the drawer? Tell us what you do have: a bill of sale, an old registration, an insurance card. Illinois rules decide which papers work for a scrap sale, and we'll tell you on the call whether yours do. Selling a car without the title covers the details.

Keep your plates. In Illinois they belong to you, not to the car.

Before you call

Do you charge for towing?
No. Towing is free, and nothing is taken off your offer to pay for it.
How and when do I get paid?
The same day we collect the car, at pickup, not after the car has been processed. Take it by Zelle, by Cash App or in cash, whichever suits you.
Will you buy a car that doesn't run or has no keys?
Yes. A dead battery, a blown engine or lost keys doesn't stop the sale. Mention the keys when we call so we know what to expect at pickup.
Can you pick up from a condo garage or an apartment lot?
Yes, once you've arranged access with the building or the lot owner. Tell us the level, the entrance and any height limit when we talk.
I have more than one vehicle to get rid of. Can you take them together?
Yes. Say how many there are and where each one sits when we call, and one pickup can cover them all. An offer we give you doesn't expire, so you can line up the paperwork first.
Which areas do you cover?
Chicago's North Side and the near north suburbs, from Evanston and Wilmette over to Glenview. The service area page has every neighborhood with local pickup notes.
Where are you located?
Our storefront is at 6642 N Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60645, in West Ridge. We're open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
