Foster down to Irving Park
Uptown sits about 2.5 miles southeast of our storefront in a straight line. It runs from Foster Avenue south to Montrose and Irving Park Road, with the lake on the east and Ravenswood Avenue and Clark Street on the west. Broadway is its historic and commercial center, and Lawrence and Wilson cross it.
The landmark corner is Lawrence and Broadway. The Aragon Ballroom, the Riviera, the Uptown Theatre (close to 4,500 seats) and the Green Mill at 4802 N. Broadway all sit within half a block of it. If your car is parked near there, tell us the block, the side of the street and whether a show is on that night.
Argyle Street, known as Little Saigon or Asia on Argyle, has its own Red Line stop and the Argyle Night Market. Truman College is here too. Graceland Cemetery, established in 1860, is in the southwest corner, with its main entrance at Clark and Irving Park.
Six-flats, courtyards and converted hotels
Uptown’s sub-neighborhoods each have their own kind of building. Sheridan Park has six-flats and courtyard apartment buildings alongside single-family homes. Margate Park mixes houses from the 1890s to the 1920s with 1920s hotels that were turned into condos and co-ops. Buena Park holds the Hutchinson Street Historic District.
What we need from you depends on which one you live in. In a courtyard building or a six-flat, tell us whether the car is at the curb or in a rear lot, and who controls that lot. In a condo or co-op, the board or management decides who can bring a truck in, so ask first and pass their answer along. With their OK, we’ll take the car straight out of the building’s lot.
When 2 inches of snow fall
Chicago runs two winter parking rules, and the 2-inch ban is the less predictable one. On about 500 miles of main streets, the city can switch it on once 2 inches of snow are on the street, at any hour and on any date. Cars left there can be ticketed or relocated, according to the city’s winter parking page.
A car that runs gets moved when the snow starts. A dead one can’t. If yours is on a main street covered by the ban, sell it before the forecast turns, not after.
Snow isn’t the only clock. A car that hasn’t moved in more than seven days and looks deserted can be reported to 311 as abandoned under the city’s rules. And if someone cut the catalytic converter off while it sat, we still buy the car; our stolen catalytic converter guide has what to do next.
Damage, paperwork and the neighbors
We pay cash for junk cars in Uptown from Foster all the way down to Graceland, and we buy accident-damaged cars as they are, with no repairs needed first. If the title has gone missing, tell us what papers you do have and we’ll confirm on the call what Illinois accepts for a scrap sale.
Cross Foster and you’re in Edgewater; cross Irving Park and it’s Lakeview. Lincoln Square is on the far side of Ravenswood. The rest are on our service area page.
