The far corner of our map

Glenview is the farthest town we list, about 8.5 miles northwest of our storefront in a straight line and roughly 15 miles from downtown Chicago. It has two stops on Metra’s Milwaukee District North Line, Glenview and North Glenview, and the Glenview station serves Amtrak trains as well.

About 15 percent of the village is The Glen, the 1,121-acre development built on the old Naval Air Station Glenview after it closed in 1995. It has The Glen Town Center, homes, offices and a lake, and the North Glenview station sits there too. If the car is at The Glen, give us the street, not just the development’s name.

Roughly one home in eight here is a townhouse or other attached house, by Census Bureau estimates. In a townhouse row, the car may be in a shared drive or a garage the association manages, so check its rules and tell us what they allow.

Twelve hours on the street, 14 days on the property

Glenview moves fast on dead cars at the curb. Section 90-363 says a vehicle that can’t be driven under its own power may not be left on a street or highway for more than 12 hours. So if your car dies at the curb, call us as soon as you can; same-day pickup is often possible.

On private property, section 90-361 defines an inoperable car as one with parts removed, altered or damaged for at least 14 days so it can’t move under its own power, and an abandoned one as a vehicle left anywhere for 14 days or more so it reasonably looks abandoned. Cars kept in a building are exempt. The same section allows no more than one unregistered vehicle on any premises.

Section 90-364 makes inoperable cars a nuisance on public or private property. After written notice, the owner has to dispose of the car, and police can remove and impound it under state law.

The 2 to 6 a.m. winter rule

From December 1 to March 31, section 90-195 bans parking on every Glenview street from 2 to 6 a.m. Residents without off-street parking can get a free windshield permit, issued each November and good until March 31, and anyone else has to call the police for permission. The permit doesn’t change the 12-hour limit for a car that can’t be driven.

If the car simply quit after a cold week, our after-winter no-start guide has a few things to check before you give up on it.

Paperwork, pickup and the neighbors

Same-day pickup is often possible out here as well, and our junk car removal page explains the visit. If the title is lost, Illinois rules decide which documents a scrap sale can use. Bring what you have, such as a bill of sale, registration or insurance card, to the call and we’ll confirm. There’s more on selling without a title.

We pay cash for junk cars in Glenview from The Glen down to the southeast corner, where Glenview Creek drains toward the North Branch of the Chicago River. Morton Grove is to the south and Wilmette to the east. You can see the whole map on our service area page.

Glenview questions

My car broke down on a Glenview street. How long can it stay there?
Twelve hours. Glenview's code doesn't allow a vehicle that can't be driven under its own power to sit on a street or highway longer than that. Call us as soon as you can; same-day pickup is often possible.
I have no driveway. Can my dead car stay on the street overnight in a Glenview winter?
Not for long. From December 1 to March 31 street parking is banned from 2 to 6 a.m. unless you have the free resident permit, and a car that can't be driven can't stay on the street more than 12 hours anyway.
Can I keep two unregistered cars in my Glenview driveway?
No. Glenview allows no more than one unregistered vehicle on any premises. Selling the second one solves it, and the tow is free.
