Howard Street down to Devon

Rogers Park is Chicago’s Community Area 1, the corner of the city that meets Evanston along Howard Street and Juneway Terrace and stops at Lake Michigan on the east. Ridge Boulevard is the west edge and Devon the south. In a straight line it’s about a mile northeast of our Western Ave storefront, one of the shortest tows on our list.

Two of its main streets started out as Native American trails, Ridge Boulevard and Rogers Avenue. The name goes back to Phillip Rogers, who ran a toll gate by his home near what’s now Ridge and Lunt. Clark Street and Sheridan Road are the other big ones, with the 22 Clark and 151 Sheridan buses on them.

The Red Line is the easiest way to say where you are. Howard, Jarvis, Morse and Loyola stations all sit inside Rogers Park, so “two blocks east of Morse” tells us more than a ZIP code does. Howard is the northernmost CTA rail stop in the city, and the Metra station is at Lunt and Ravenswood. If you’re in the strip north of Howard that people call NoHo, say so. It’s still Chicago, right up against the Evanston line.

Orange signs and sweeping season

From April 1 through the end of November, and later if the weather allows, Chicago sweeps its streets on a schedule set by ward and section. Streets and Sanitation puts up bright orange temporary no-parking signs two days before a sweep. Some blocks have permanent signs instead, for one set day a week or two days a month.

Each side of the street gets its own date, which you can look up on the 2026 sweeping schedule, through Sweeper Tracker or by calling 311. A car that runs just moves. A car that won’t start sits there while the signs go up around it.

So if orange signs appear on your block, that’s the day to call us. Two days’ notice is a short window, and same-day pickup is often possible, so don’t wait for day two.

Loyola, Clark Street and the building lots

Loyola University Chicago’s Lake Shore Campus sits in the southeast corner by the lake, home to the Madonna Della Strada Chapel and the Art Deco Mundelein Center. If a car died on you over the semester and you’re about to leave town, it doesn’t need to start or have keys for us to buy it. Some people would rather give an old car away; our guide to junking or donating a car in Illinois sets the two side by side.

If the car is in the back lot of an apartment or condo building, get the landlord or management to sign off before we come. Once they have, a shared lot is no different from the street for us. And if the car is on Clark or Sheridan, give us the exact address and the nearest side street, since the truck has to load it around the bus stops.

Dead engines, and the areas next door

A seized engine or a car that won’t start for reasons nobody has tracked down is fine with us. We buy cars, trucks, vans and SUVs in any condition, and getting cash for junk cars in Rogers Park works the same north of Howard as it does by Loyola.

West of Ridge Boulevard is West Ridge, where our storefront is. Edgewater begins south of Devon, and Evanston is across Howard. Everything else we cover is on the service area page.

Rogers Park questions

Orange no-parking signs just went up on my Rogers Park block and my car won't start. What now?
Call us that day rather than the next. The city posts those signs two days before a sweep, and same-day pickup is often possible, so the earlier you call, the better your odds of getting it off the block first. The tow is free.
Do you pick up north of Howard Street?
Yes. The blocks between Howard and the Evanston line at Juneway Terrace are part of Rogers Park, and we buy cars on the Evanston side too.
Can you collect a car from an apartment lot near Loyola?
Yes, once you've cleared it with the building or landlord. Tell us where in the lot it's parked and whether it rolls, and we'll confirm the rest on the call.
