Western Avenue is our own stretch
Our storefront sits at 6642 N Western Ave, on the same stretch of Western as Warren Park, which at almost 89 acres is the largest park in the Park District’s North Region. No pickup we do starts closer to home. West Ridge runs from Howard Street south to Peterson and Bryn Mawr, with Kedzie Avenue and the North Shore Channel along the west side and Ridge Boulevard forming part of the east.
Plenty of people here still say West Rogers Park. The area was known as North Town before it broke away from its eastern neighbor in 1890, after a fight over park districts that got nicknamed the Cabbage War, and Chicago annexed it in 1893. Call it whatever your family calls it. Paying cash for junk cars in West Ridge is the closest work we do.
Devon Avenue, the bungalow blocks and Peterson Park
Devon is the main street. Between Ravenswood and California it’s the Desi corridor most Chicagoans know as Little India, where the first Patel Brothers opened in 1974, and different stretches carry honorary names, Golda Meir Boulevard among them. The 155 Devon bus runs it all the way to Kedzie. If your car is on Devon or tucked onto a side street just off it, give us the nearest cross street and say which side of Devon you’re on.
The side streets are a different job. West Ridge has two bungalow historic districts, Rogers Park Manor and Talman West Ridge, with more than 400 Chicago bungalows between them, built around the 1920s. If the car is in a garage behind one of those houses, tell us whether the truck should come in from the alley or the street, and whether a fence or a neighbor’s car tends to sit in the way.
Peterson Park is part of West Ridge, so pickups there work the same way, and so do the blocks around Indian Boundary Park. That park opened in 1922 and takes its name from a boundary line drawn under an 1816 treaty; its 1929 fieldhouse is a Chicago Landmark. It makes a good reference point if your street is near it.
Permit zones and the 311 clock
A car that won’t start can still collect trouble where it’s parked. On a residential permit zone block, parking during the posted hours is for residents and their guests, and the car needs a city sticker with zone parking or a daily permit whose zone number matches the sign. The zone permit expires with the sticker it’s printed on, so a lapsed sticker means no zone parking.
The city’s abandoned vehicle rules are the bigger risk. A vehicle on the public way that can’t be driven as it stands can be classed as abandoned, and so can one that hasn’t moved in more than seven days and looks deserted. Anyone can report it to 311. A city contractor then tows it to auto pound 3S or 3N, and if nobody redeems it, it’s sold for scrap. Selling it yourself first means you get paid instead. Our North Side abandoned-car guide goes into the 311 side in more detail.
What to tell us before pickup day
When you call or fill in the quote form, four details help most: the address or nearest corner, where the car sits (curb, alley, garage or a condo lot), whether it rolls and steers, and whether you have keys. Keys aren’t required. Our junk car removal page explains the pickup itself, and same-day pickup is often possible from here.
For a condo or apartment lot, clear it with the building or landlord first; once you’ve arranged access, we can collect from a shared lot. If the title is missing, Illinois rules decide which papers work for a scrap sale. Tell us what you have, such as a bill of sale, registration or an insurance card, and we’ll confirm on the call. Our page on cars with no title has more.
The blocks just past West Ridge
East of Ridge Boulevard you’re in Rogers Park. Across the North Shore Channel, Lincolnwood sits north of Devon and North Park south of it. The rest of the neighborhoods and suburbs we cover are on the service area page.
